Allegheny Energy Transmission Headquarters

Location: Fairmont, West Virginia
Customer: United Architectural Metals
Project Owner: Allegheny Energy
Architectural Firm: Architect Omni Associates
Material: 6" 3 aluminum air foil sunshade system with formed outrigger supports and integrated curtainwall T-brackets

The architects that were designing this job were looking to certify this state of the art building under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System. The LEED system provides standards for environmentally sustainable construction. With over 148,000 square feet, the architects had a lot of work ahead of them, both on the interior and exterior of the building.

Ohio Gratings sunshade system was selected as it met the eligibility criteria for the LEED Credits. Products utilized on this system included 6" aluminum airfoil with formed outrigger supports and integrated cutrainwall T-brackets. Approximately 715 linear feet of sunshades were used, with the primary area covering a two story radial curtainwall assembly. OGI was able to work closely with the curtainwall company to coordinate the details and engineering to ensure a quality product was installed. The typical 3' projection included five 6" airfoil blades at spans up to 9'. The material was provided with an Arcadia Silver 3 coat Kynar finish.
